What kinds of photos or videos should I send of my made garment?
Photo or Video Subject
Photos can be of you wearing the garment, the garment on a mannequin or detail shots to highlight craftmasnship or the process of making the garment.
Photo & Video Technique Tips
To effectively showcase handmade clothes in a selfie or on a mannequin:
- ensure good even lighting and avoid hard shadows or direct bright lights - for example sunlight through clouds or semo transparent blinds,
- natural muted lighting tends to be better than artificial lights or direct sunlight,
- use a stable, waist-to-chest-high camera position to show true proportions,
- take photos or videos from multiple angles (front, side, back)
- use a timer or tripod,
- keep the background simple and clutter-free,
- pose naturally with relaxed hands.
To effectively showcase the details in handmade clothes or the process of making the clothes:
- ensure good even lighting and avoid hard shadows or direct bright lights - for example sunlight through clouds or semi transparent blinds,
- natural muted lighting tends to be better than artificial lights or direct sunlight,
- take photos from multiple angles (front, side, back)
- either keep the background simple and clutter-free but use a sufficiently contrasting colour to highlight the garment, or consider the placement of complimentary items to showcase the detail (e.g. matching thread colour, sewing tools, sewing machine etc)
